Stoichiometry of Pt Submonolayer Deposition via Surface-Limited Redox Replacement Reaction

چکیده
The work exploring the stoichiometry of Pt deposition via surface-limited redox replacement of the underpotentially deposited UPD Cu monolayer on Au 111 is presented. The Cu UPD monolayer is formed from 10−3 M Cu2+ + 0.1 M HClO4 solution, whereas the Pt deposition via surface-limited redox replacement reaction is carried out in 10−3 M PtCl6 2− + 0.1 M HClO4 solution at open-circuit potential. Our results indicate that the Pt submonolayers have two-dimensional morphology and linear dependence of their coverage on the amount coverage of the replaced Cu UPD monolayers. Our analysis shows that the oxidation state of Cu during redox replacement reaction is 1+, suggesting that four Cu UPD adatoms are replaced by each deposited Pt adatom. This work stresses the general importance of the anions, determining the stoichiometry of metal deposition reaction via surface-limited redox replacement of the UPD monolayers. © 2010 The Electrochemical Society. Ceria nanoformations in CO oxidation on Pt(111): Promotional effects and reversible redox behaviour
A well-defined CeOx/Pt(111) model catalytic system has been fabricated using the self-assembling of Ce adatoms on a Pt(111) surface with a subsequent oxidation of the nucleating Ce submonolayer (0.3 ML). The resulting system of the ‘‘inverse supported catalyst’’ type consists of CeOx nanoformations (2D islands of 5–15 nm size and 0.3 nm in height) more or less uniformly distributed over the Pt(...

Without using any templates or surfactants, this study develops a high-yield process to prepare vertical Ag-Pt core-shell nanowires (NWs) by thermally assisted photoreduction of Ag NWs and successive galvanic replacement between Ag and Pt ions. The clean surface of Ag nanowires allows Pt ions to reduce and deposit on it and forms a compact sheath comprising Pt nanocrystals. The core-shell struc...

A deposition process has been developed to fabricate a complete-monolayer Pt coating on a large-surface-area three-dimensional (3D) Ni foam substrate using a buffer layer (Ag or Au) strategy. The quartz crystal microbalance, current density analysis, cyclic voltammetry integration, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy results show that the monolayer deposition process accomplishes full coverage...

The photocathodic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) from p-type Si nanowire (NW) arrays was evaluated using platinum deposited by atomic layer deposition (ALD) as a HER cocatalyst. ALD of Pt on the NW surface led to a highly conformal coating of nanoparticles with sizes ranging from 0.5 to 3 nm, allowing for precise control of the Pt loading in deep submonolayer quantities. The catalytic perfor...
